Close loss for Lady Highlanders
HUNTSVILLE — The Lady Highlanders have appeared on the verge of big district wins on more than one occasion this season, only to fall short in the end. That scenario played itself out again Tuesday (Jan. 29) evening at SHS Gymnasium, as Scott came up just short against Knox Catholic, 52-45.
After trailing by eight points at the intermission, Scott used a big third quarter to battle back and trim the deficit to one, trailing the Lady Irish 36-35 heading into the fourth quarter. But Catholic was able to pull away down the stretch, as Caroline Johnson scored 10 of her game-high 19 in the final period. Jenna Mire also scored 19 for Catholic.
Scott was led in scoring by Jenny Shelton’s 15 points.
The Lady Highlanders outscored Catholic 16-9 in the third quarter after being behind by eight points to begin the quarter, but were outscored 16-10 in the fourth period.
The Lady Highlanders will conclude district and regular season play on Tuesday night at Catholic.
