Lady Highlanders offer up surprise in finale

HUNTSVILLE — Kate Lowe scored 27 points and Shay Anderson added 16 as the Lady Highlanders closed out the regular season with a 56-50 defeat of Christian Academy of Knoxville at Highlander Gymnasium Friday evening.

Lowe made good use of the free throw line, shooting free shots early and often in the victory. As a team, the Lady Highlanders were 18 of 23 from the line. Lowe made 12 of 15 from the stripe, including six of eight in the fourth quarter with the game on the line.

Lowe added eight rebounds and three steals to her 27 points, while Anderson recorded five rebounds.

Lexi Jeffers added 10 points for Scott and Ashton Owens scored three.

CAK’s Ruthie Edmunds knocked down five 3-point shots in a losing effort, for 15 points. Alesa Hammaker added 13 and Brittany Hoffman 11 for the Warriors.

After trailing by 10 points early in the second quarter, Scott rebounded to cut the deficit to 28-21 by the intermission. Trailing by three (38-35) at the beginning of the fourth, the Lady Highlanders outscored the Warriors 21-12 in the final period.

ANDERSON CO. 56, SCOTT 47

HUNTSVILLE — A big fourth quarter wasn’t enough for the Lady Highlanders here Thursday night, as Anderson County earned a 56-47 district win.

Scott fell behind by nine points early in the contest, and trailed by 17 (41-24) heading into the fourth quarter. In the final period, the Lady Highlanders outscored the Lady Mavericks 23-15, but could only close the gap to single digits.

Lexi Jeffers scored all eight of her points, including a pair of 3-point shots, in the final period. Kate Lowe scored 11 of her game-high 24 in the final period.

Also scoring on the evening for the Lady Highlanders were Ashton Owens with nine and Shay Anderson with six.

Anderson County was led by Whitney Elliot’s 15 points. Jacquelyn Hickson added 13 and Emily Oaks 11.

SCOTT 59, AMBASSADORS 39

HUNTSVILLE — Kate Lowe scored 31 points here Tuesday (Feb. 10) as the Lady Highlanders jumped to a 37-8 halftime lead and coasted to a 59-39 win over the Knox Ambassadors.

Emily Card and Emily McMichael each scored 14 for the Ambassadors.

Also scoring for Scott were Shay Anderson with nine, Lexi Jeffers with six, Lynsey Chambers with four, Ashton Owens with three, and Maranda Woodward, Shawna Simpson and Syrena Kries with two points each.
