Oneida sails to 49-8 win over Robbins
In what has turned into one of the best middle school football rivalries in the area, Thursday’s game was uncharacteristically one-sided, as Oneida defeated Robbins 49-8 at Dr. M.E. Thompson Field.
The Indians (4-3) jumped to a 28-0 lead at halftime and led 42-0 before Robbins (1-6) scored in the second half.
Toby Hood had a big game for Oneida, scoring four touchdowns, including two kickoff returns for scores.
After a Robbins punt to open the game, the Indians took possession at the Hawks’ 13-yard-line following a punt return by Hood. Two plays later, Hood scored from 13 yards out to put the Indians on top 7-0 after Jarrett Lay’s PAT.
After another Robbins punt, Dalton Duncan scored from 33 yards out to put the Indians on top 14-0.
To begin the second quarter, Oneida scored on a 15-yard touchdown pass from Duncan to Lay to lead 21-0.
The Indians would add a final touchdown in the final minute of the first half, as Hood scored on a nine-yard run, giving Oneida a 28-0 lead at the intermission.
The second half began with Hood returning a kickoff 64 yards for a touchdown for a 35-0 lead. Later in the third quarter, Michael Webber scored from 21 yards out to increase the lead to 42-0.
Robbins was able to get on the scoreboard on the ensuing possession, with a touchdown run from Caleb Hamby.
On the ensuing kickoff, Hood broke free for a 77-yard return for a touchdown, capping the scoring at 49-8.
