Series of events line Memorial weekend
HUNTSVILLE — Darryle Singletary and Ricochet will headline Brimstone Recreation’s “White Knuckle” event here this weekend, while Dennis Ford will be the guest speaker at the VFW Post 5669’s annual Memorial Day service in Oneida.
Those are but two of the events planned for the holiday weekend that will jump-start the summer season.
White Knuckle 2009 will kick off Friday morning, with guided ATV rides on Brimstone Recreation’s property in the hills behind Huntsville. Events will continue throughout the weekend, including drag races, sled pulls, poker runs, mud bogs, concerts and more. Country acts Daryle Singletary and Ricochet will be in concert at the Half Cabin Event Area on Brimstone at 7 p.m. Saturday evening. Singletary and Ricochet rose to fame in the mid-’90s; Singletary with his hit single “Too Much Fun” and Ricochet with their chart-topper, “Daddy’s Money.”
On Monday, the local VFW post will host its traditional Memorial Day service at the post home in north Oneida, beginning at 11 a.m. A service at the Post Memorial Wall will be followed by lunch in the basement of the post home. Dennis Ford, pastor of First United Methodist Church and a veteran of the Vietnam War, will be the guest speaker,
The Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area will also host several events during the extended weekend, including a program about cemeteries within the BSF NRRA Saturday morning.
