Oneida woman injured in accident

WINFIELD — An Oneida woman sustained serious injuries in a single-vehicle accident on U.S. Hwy. 27 here Tuesday morning.

Charlotta Kidd, of Oneida, was injured after being ejected from her SUV in the 7:40 a.m. accident, which occurred just north of Pine Grove Road.

It was believed that Kidd had swerved to avoid a collision with another vehicle pulling onto the highway when she lost control of her 1997 Chevy Tahoe. The SUV left the pavement, plunged down an embankment off the northbound lane of U.S. 27, and overturned onto its top.

Kidd was the sole occupant of the vehicle, and was reportedly en route to Pine Knot, where she is student-teaching. She was treated at the scene by EMTs before being transported to St. Mary’s of Scott County Emergency Room.

Winfield Police Department Officer Brian King was the first to arrive on scene, followed by Trooper Brian Boshears of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, who investigated the accident. Deputies from the Scott County Sheriff’s Department, including Brian Keeton, also responded.

Officers remained on the scene for approximately one hour while the investigation was conducted and the wreckage removed.
