Conditions of bail prohibit constable from duties
HUNTSVILLE — A Helenwood constable has been prohibited from carrying out the functions of his position as conditions of bail set forth in Scott County General Sessions Court last week.
At a hearing here Wednesday (July 16), Judge James L. (Jamie) Cotton, Jr. signed an order setting forth special bail conditions for Curtis Crabtree, who has been charged with rape of a child.
Crabtree, constable for Scott County’s 4th Civil District, which includes Helenwood, was prohibited from carrying out “any functions as constable, nor carry a weapon or firearm at any time” as conditions of bail. He was also ordered to have no contact with his grandchildren or their caretakers while he awaits trial.
Crabtree is a candidate for re-election in the upcoming August General Election. He faces opposition from Jimmy E. Sexton.
Det. Melissa Dunning, of the Scott County Sheriff’s Department, arrested Crabtree earlier this month following an investigation by the Sheriff’s Department, Department of Children’s Services, and the Children’s Center of the Cumberlands.
