Roane man charged with local man's murder

HARRIMAN — An apparent love triangle may have been the motive for the stabbing death of a Scott County man here over the weekend.

Roane County authorities on Saturday arrested Lynn Patterson, 41, of Oliver Springs, following the death of David Lowe, 50, of Huntsville.

According to Detective Greg Russell of the Roane County Sheriff’s Department, Patterson was arrested following the 5 p.m. Saturday incident, which occurred at a Quarry Road residence near Harriman.

“From what I’ve been able to gather from witnesses, the deceased had given the suspect’s girlfriend a ride home and had spent the night there,” Det. Russell said. “I guess the more [Patterson] thought about it, the more upset he got.”

Allegedly, Patterson — who was described by authorities as Lowe’s “drinking buddy” — told neighbors that he was going to kill Lowe. A short time later, authorities allege, he came back from the residence, threw a knife alleged to be the murder weapon into a ditchline, and announced that he had killed Lowe.

Sheriff’s deputies discovered Lowe stabbed in the stomach at the residence. Patterson was arrested following a foot pursuit into the woods nearby, authorities said.

Patterson was charged with first degree murder and was being held under a $250,000 bond. He was expected to be arraigned in Roane County General Sessions Court in Kingston Monday afternoon.

Lowe is survived by six children.
