Grand Jury indicts seven

HUNTSVILLE — In a slow January term, the Scott County Grand Jury indicted seven individuals on six separate indictments last week, ranging from theft over $10,000 to aggravated assault.

Among the indictments were:

• Damon J. Buis, age 35, and Christopher D. St. John, age 28, named in a two-count indictment for theft over $10,000 and failure to appear, stemming from a Sept. 2 incident in which Buis and St. John allegedly stole a 1995 Ford truck containing tools and equipment from J&M construction company of Huntsville;

• Jessica R. Bertram, age 19, indicted on theft under $500, stemming from a Sept. 26 incident in which Bertram allegedly stole jewelry;

• Ashlee Kay Strunk, age 21, named in a four-count indictment for DUI, 2nd offense, joyriding, leaving the scene of an accident, and violation of the implied consent law, all stemming from an alleged Dec. 6 incident;

• Timothy Marcum, age 49, indicted for aggravated assault, stemming from an Aug. 15 incident in which Marcum allegedly assaulted a male individual with a gun;

• Randy Beaver, age 63, indicted for aggravated assault, stemming from an Oct. 18 incident in which Beaver allegedly assaulted a male individual with a Weed-Eater; and,

• Gil Monroe Clark, age 42, named in a two-count indictment for violation of HMVO bar and failure to appear, stemming from an alleged Oct. 17 incident.

The Scott County Grand Jury meets several times each year and is charged with determining whether sufficient evidence exists to send a criminal matter to trial. Charges are presented by a prosecutor. The grand jury returns a “true bill” if it finds that sufficient evidence exists to send the matter to trial, or a “no true bill” if it finds that sufficient evidence does not exist.

A grand jury indictment is merely a criminal charge, and does not represent a conviction. All individuals indicted by the grand jury remain innocent until proven guilty in court.
