Admissions suspended at nursing home

The admission of new patients has been suspended at a local nursing home, the Tennessee Department of Health announced last week.

Health Commissioner Susan R. Cooper suspended new admissions at Huntsville Manor, and imposed a state civil monetary penalty of $1,500 after an inspection found violations at the facility.

According to the Department of Health, a federal civil penalty, of $5,300 per day until violations are corrected, was also imposed. A special monitor was appointed to review the center’s operations.

The order came after an annual survey was conducted August 27 through August 30 at the 96-bed facility. According to the state, surveyors found violations of administration, performance improvement, quality of care, physicians’ orders and nursing service standards.

The department stated that the commissioner may suspend admissions to a nursing home “when conditions are determined to be, or are likely to be, detrimental to the health, safety or welfare of the residents.”

The order to suspend admissions remains effective until conditions have been and continue to remain corrected.

Huntsville Manor has the right to a hearing regarding the suspension of admissions before the Board for Licensing Health Care Facilities or an administrative judge.
