Jailed deemed in 'perfect standards' by TDOC

HUNTSVILLE — The Scott County Jail has been deemed in good standards by the Tennessee Department of Corrections, Sheriff Anthony Lay announced Monday.

According to a prepared statement from Sheriff Lay, the Sheriff’s Department was inspected by TDOC regional jail inspector Barry Sutles earlier this month. In a letter from Tennessee Corrections Institute Director Jerry Abston, Abston wrote that Sheriff Lay “should be congratulated for attaining this degree of professionalism in his organization.”

In his statement, Lay said that the jail was inspected and some violations found when it was inspected one year ago, early in his administration. However, he said, his administration “had not had time in two weeks to correct problems.” This time, he said, “We had a perfect inspection on the jail and I cannot be more pleased.”

Lay expressed appreciation for his staff’s hard work, particularly Capt. Tommy Jeffers and Sgt. Glendara Tucker, the jail’s administrators.

“[They] were great decisions for administrators in the jail,” Lay said. “They have done an outstanding leadership job and I am ver proud of both of them.”

Lay and Chief Deputy Bobby Ellis also congratulated the jail staff in full, including correctional deputies Doc Hall, Kim Bowling, Jeffery Dixon, Gary Jeffers, Doug Bertram, Derek Boshears, Kristy King, David Buttram, Dereck Morgan, Bradley Stephens, Tiffany Byrge and Derek Sexton.

“We want to personally thank them for their hard work efforts and dedication to their position,” Lay said.
