Acting during a called meeting on Friday morning, the Oneida Special School District Board of Education voted 4-0, with board member Steve Phillips absent, to turn the hunt for a new superintendent over to a search firm.
No firm has yet been hired by the board, but information from various firms was expected to have been received last week.
The board said all applications received will be nullified, and applicants will be contacted and asked to turn their application over to the firm contracted by the board to conduct the search.
An interim superintendent is expected to be hired this week. A called meeting was scheduled for yesterday (Wednesday) morning at 11 a.m. Board Chairman Mike Baker said that the leading applicant is "not from the local area," but is a person with whom many within the system are familiar with.
Outgoing superintendent Mayfield Brown announced his decision to resign in August and is scheduled to step down on December 31, following a 13-year tenure with the Oneida Special School District.
