Father, son arrested for sale of morphine

December 14, 2006

HUNTSVILLE — A Helenwood father and son were arrested last week for allegedly selling narcotics, including morphine.

According to Scott County Sheriff Anthony Lay, James E. York, Sr., age 59, and James E. York, Jr., age 20, were both arrested after their home was raided in the early hours of a morning last week.

Lay stated that officers from his department had carried out drug operations prior to the raid, during which they learned that the senior York was selling pain pills.

When the raid was conducted, at approximately 2 a.m., several illegal pain pills were allegedly recovered by authorities, as well as a safe said to be stolen from Morgan County.

According to Lay, York, Jr. had drug paraphernalia (insulin needles) and pain medication ground into powder in his possession when he was arrested.

The pain pills recovered by authorities were believed to be morphine and clonopin, Lay stated.

Assisting with the drug bust were Sheriff Lay, Captain Butch Morris, Deputy Mitch Smith and the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department.

“This is another one down, but there are plenty more to go,” Lay said.
