Chamber prepares for annual Christmas parade

December 1, 2005

The 57th annual Scott County Christmas Parade will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 3. As in years past, the theme for the parade is open allowing for creativity of entries.

All civic organizations, church groups, clubs, and beauty contest winners are encouraged to participate in the parade. Each entry should display a banner or poster identifying the entry.

The maximum height for entries should not be more than 14 feet, with the maximum length being no more than 50 feet and a width of no more than eight feet. Float entries should report to the back of the HBD Industries’ parking lot after 10 a.m. and must be in line no later than 11:45 a.m.

Judging for floats will begin at 12 noon. Late arrivals will not be judged.

All other entries should report to the back portion of the HBD Industries’ parking lot no later thank 1:15 p.m, with the exception of horses and riders who will report to the field near Mt. People’s Health Care facility behind HBD Industries. Drivers of ATVs must wear helmets and hold a valid drivers license.

The parade will set-off at the HBD Industries’ parking lot, proceed from the parking lot onto Industrial Lane, to Alberta Avenue, north on Alberta Avenue to Municipal Drive.

Floats will disband in the parking lot in front of the former Food City building; all other entries will continue on Municipal Drive to Claude Terry Drive and re-enter Alberta Avenue at traffic light # 5.

Because of confusion to young children if multiple Santas are in the parade and since Santa Claus always rides at the end of the parade on a fire truck, no float or other entry may have a fully-costumed Santa.

In case of inclement weather, the parade will be held on Sunday, December 4, beginning at 3 p.m.
