Christmas parade set for Saturday

November 30, 2006

By BEN GARRETT
Independent Herald Editor

Scott County’s annual Christmas parade is scheduled to depart from HBD Industries on Industrial Lane Saturday afternoon. Dr. Gary Goff, president of Roane State Community College, will serve as grand marshall of the parade, which will be the 58th annual parade hosted by the Scott County Chamber of Commerce.

The parade will depart from the HBD parking lot at 2 p.m., proceed east on Industrial Lane, left onto north Alberta Street (U.S. Hwy. 27) and continue to traffic light number six, and turn right onto Municipal Drive before disbanding.

Floats will disband at Oneida Plaza in the former Food City parking lot, while all other entries will continue on Municipal Drive to Oneida Elementary School before disbanding in the parking lot there.

In the event of inclement weather on Saturday, the parade would be held on Sunday at 3 p.m. The National Weather Service’s five-day outlook as of Tuesday called for partly cloudy skies on Saturday, with temperatures in the upper 40s.

All parade entries (with the exception of horses and riders) are to report to Gate 1 at HBD Industries no later than 1:15 p.m. Saturday afternoon. Horses and riders will report to the field near the Mountain People’s Health Clinic.

Floats and riders should report to the HBD parking lot after 10 a.m. but no later than 12:15 p.m. All floats, even those not being judged, should be in place no later than 12:15 p.m. Pictures of float entries will be taken at 12:15 p.m., with judging began at 12:30 p.m.

The Chamber of Commerce encourages all parade participants to cautiously toss wrapped candy, and reminds entries that there will be a live radio broadcast on WBNT-FM, so detailed information on parade entries should be provided. The Chamber will sponsor the entry for Santa.
