A total of 467 people have voted in advance of Saturday's municipal election in the Town of Oneida, according to Administrator of Elections Brenda Sexton at the Scott County Election Commission Office.
Mayor Jack Lay (running unopposed) and nine candidates for four aldermen's sets are vying for four-year terms in the Nov. 1 election, which will be held at one precinct only between the hours of 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. Sexton pointed out that some Oneida voters would normally cast their ballots at other precincts, but this year's municipal election has been consolidated to one precinct only - the Oneida Municipal Building.
Candidates for aldermen include the four incumbents: Jim Swann, James Smith, MacArthur Burchfield and Jeff Tibbals; along with five challengers: Cecil Anderson, Mary King, David Lowe, Jr., Sharon Miller and Charles "Wompie" Sexton.
Of the 467 ballots already cast (of the town's 2,040 registered voters), 456 cast their vote in person during the Early Voting period (which ended Monday), while 11 voted by mail. Another five by mail ballot applications were sent out but had not been returned as of Tuesday morning, Sexton said.
Of the 456 who cast ballots in person, 439 turned out at the Oneida Municipal Building's Early Voting precinct and 17 voted at the Scott County Election Commission Office in Huntsville, Sexton added.
