Oneida Woman Killed In Knoxville Crash

October 28, 2004

An Oneida woman was killed and her passenger injured in a Knoxville traffic accident on Wednesday (October 20).

The Knoxville Police Department identified the victim on Friday as Rebecca Spliethof, 52, of Oneida.

The Knoxville News-Sentinel reported that Spliethof was driving a 1987 Nissan Maxima and had pulled onto the northbound lane of Alcoa Highway shortly after 6 p.m. on Wednesday when she stopped and was struck by a 2000 GMC van, driven by 59-year-old David Leach, Jr. of Maryville. Leach was not injured in the accident.

Spliethof was pronounced dead at the scene. Also injured in the crash was Stlithos' passenger, 93-year-old Tinah Gattler, also of Oneida. Gattler was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where she was listed in serious condition.

Spliethof is survived by her husband, Andrew Spliethof, and two children: son Steven Mott and daughter Melissa Hamp and husband Jackson. Funeral services were conducted on Sunday at Trinity Baptist Church in Huntsville.
