Barricades Have Been Removed On Closed Bridges
HUNTSVILLE - Scott County Road Supt. Dick Sexton says barricades have been moved by person or persons unknown on two bridges which were ordered closed by the State Department of Transportation.
Sexton said because of that action, Bridge and State Aid funds to the road department were terminated until the bridges are once again permanently closed off.
The bridges where barricades were moved were identified as the Jeffers Road Bridge over Buffalo Creek and the Burnt Mill Bridge over the Clear Fork River.
"We, the Scott County Road Dept., and the State of Tennessee, would greatly appreciate the public's cooperation concerning this matter," Sexton said, in a public statement issued last week. Sexton had been notified in writing by the State Department of Transportation that the bridges were:
". . . [N]ot properly closed or posted more than sixty (60) days after notification. As a result, we have been notified that your agency no longer is in compliance . . . and is no longer eligible to receive federal funding for roadway or bridge projects until all closures or postings are properly made."
As a result of that action, Sexton's department was required to provide photograph proof of the closure of the bridges before the Department of Transportation would proceed with a follow-up inspection and put the road department back in compliance.
