E.R. Physician Injured In Crash
An Emergency Room physician was seriously injured in an early morning accident on U.S. 27 in Oneida Monday, when his vehicle sideswiped a building and crashed into the side of a dump truck.
Dr. Stanley M. Swindell, 42, of Hixon, who had reportedly just completed a 12-hour shift at Scott County HospitalÕs ER, was the driver and sole occupant of a 1996 Ford Explorer, which was traveling south on U.S. 27 near Big JohnÕs Shell Station, when it left the highway, sideswiped the brick wall of MarcumÕs Parts and continued on into the curve where it crashed into the side of a southbound 1984 Ford dump truck, according to a report filed by Oneida Police Officer Steven M. Ward, who investigated the 8:52 a.m. accident.
The truck, owned by Miller & Sons, Inc., and driven by Christopher W. Crowley, 39, was just ahead of the Explorer and had just negotiated the curve when the collision occurred.
As a result of the impact, the Explorer was wedged against the side of the dump truck and paramedics from the Scott County Ambulance Service were unable to remove the victim from the wreckage until a wrecker winch was used to pry them apart.
Several units from the Oneida Police Department, as well as a fire truck were called to the scene.
