Former Scott resident among victims of Lexington, Ky. crash

August 31, 2006

A former Scott County resident was among the victims of Comair Flight 5191 that crashed upon takeoff from the Blue Grass Airport in Lexington, Ky. around 6 a.m. Sunday, the Independent Herald has learned.

Bryan Keith Woodward, 39, of Lafayette, LA, identified as an electrical engineer, was among the 49 fatalities in the Delta comupter jet crash, according to his aunt, Janis Lloyd, of Huntsville.

Woodward lived in Huntsville as a boy and attended Huntsville Middle School, and was a member of the White Rock Baptist Church of Huntsville, Mrs. Lloyd said in a Monday morning interview.

“He left here when he was about fifteen, I believe, after his father (Bob Woodward) died,” she stated. “He still has a lot of relatives in Scott County . . . Woodwards, Rectors and others,” she added.”

Mrs. Lloyd said she had talked on the phone with Woodward’s mother, Ramona Keen, also of LaFayette, LA. “She drove all the way from Louisiana to Lexington,” Mrs. Lloyd said. “They (the airline) put her and other family members up in the Campbell House.”

Mrs. Lloyd said she had been watching the news “all day” about the plane crash, never knowing that she had a family member on it. She said she first learned of her nephew being on the plane when a niece called and told her.

“He was in Kentucky on a job and was flying to El Paso, TX for another job. The plane he was on was taking him to Atlanta where he was going to catch a flight to El Paso,” Mrs. Lloyd said.

She said Woodward was married to Jamie Heibert and that the couple had two teenage daughters.

Other survivors listed by Mrs. Lloyd include twin brother, Brent Kincaid Woodward, a half-borther and half-sister, Bobby Lee Woodwad Jr. and Shanna.

Saying that although she had not seen Brian Woodward for a few years, she and her kids “are devastaged” by his death, Mrs. Lloyd said.
