Battle blaze
Two Oneida firefighters are silhouetted against the flames of a two-story house at 213 Grave Hill Rd., owned by Gil Blankenship, which was totally destroyed by fire Wednesday night (Aug. 13). The fire, which was fully engulfed when the first unit arrived on the scene at 11:55 p.m., was quickly brought under control, but firefighters remained on the scene for 12 hours extinguishing Òhotspots,Ó according to Fire Chief Mike Stringer. Mutual aid assistance was provided by forces from the Winfield, Mid-County and 7th District departments, and a total of 28 firefighters were on the scene during the course of the night, Stringer added. The home was unoccupied and undergoing remodeling, and the cause of the blaze had not been determined.
