Grand Jury Returns 16 Indictments

HUNTSVILLE - A total of 16 indictments, three of which remained sealed as of the Independent Herald's press deadline, were returned last week by the Scott County Grand Jury, which convened here July 12.

Among the indictments returned by the Grand Jury were indictments ranging from statutory rape and incest to driving under the influence. Among those indicted were:

Clarence Wayne Lowe, 41, named in a 10-count indictment for incest, in connection with incidents involving a female that allegedly occurred between May 2000 and January 2001.

Jeffrey M. Griffith, 43, named in a four-count indictment for statutory rape, in connection with incidents involving a minor female that allegedly occurred between February 2004 and April 2004. Griffith was arraigned in Criminal Court on Friday, where he pled not guilty. A trial date was set for November 22.

Lachrisa H. Adams, 24, named in a five-count indictment that included one count each of theft over $500, aggravated burglary, vandalism under $500, simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, all in connection with an alleged May 30 burglary at an Oneida-area residence.

Derek Nagy, 22, indicted on one count of theft under $500, in connection with the alleged theft of a .22-caliber rifle in 2003.

Johnny Lloyd, 32, named in a seven-count indictment that included two counts of reckless endangerment, one count each of cultivation of marijuana and evading arrest and three counts of retaliation for past action, all in connection with a September 26 incident in which Lloyd allegedly "engaged in conduct which placed (Scott County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy) Marty Carson in imminent danger of death or serious bodily injury."

Arthur Gene Hatfield, 41, named in a three-count indictment that included one count each of simple possession of cocaine, simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, in connection with an alleged April 24 incident.

Ryan Clark, 29, and Nicole R. Windle, 27, named in a three-count indictment that included one count each of simple possession of a controlled substance, third offense; possession of drug paraphernalia; and theft under $500, all in connection with an alleged April 22 incident.

Johnny G. Taylor, 55, and Bruce Worley, 46, indicted for one count of simple possession of marijuana, in connection with an alleged April 23 incident. Taylor and Worley were arraigned in Criminal Court on Friday, where they pled not guilty to the charge against them. A trial date was set for November 29.

Marion Marcum, 53, named in a two-count indictment for DUI and violation of the implied consent law, in connection with a May 11 incident in which he allegedly refused to submit to a test to determine the alcohol or drug content of his blood after being placed under arrest for DUI. Marcum was arraigned in Criinal Court on Friday. He pled not guilty and a trial date was set for December 3.

Joann Bowling, 46, named in a two-count indictment for DUI and violation of the implied consent law, in connection with a June 2 incident in which she allegedly refused to submit to a test to determine the alcohol or drug content of her blood after being placed under arrest for DUI. Bowling was arraigned Friday morning in Criminal Court, where she pled not guilty. A trial date was set for December 2.

Carolyn King Gregory, 43, named in a two-count indictment for DUI, sixth offense, and driving on a revoked license, in connection with an alleged December 30, 2003, traffic stop. Gregory was arraigned in Criminal Court on Friday, where she pled not guilty to the charges before her. A trial date was set for December 1.

Christopher L. Burress, 33, named in a two-count indictment for DUI and violation of implied consent law, in connection with a March 27 incident in which he allegedly refused to submit to a test to determine the alcoholic or drug content of his blood after being placed under arrest for DUI.

Louis J. Bean, Jr., age unavailable, indicted on one count of driving on a revoked license, third offense, in connection with an alleged August 2, 2003, incident. Bean, Jr. was arraigned in Criminal Court on Friday, where he entered a plea of not guilty. A trial date was set for November 30.
