HUNTSVILLE - Some 600 motorcyclists braved rainy weather Friday to make the trek up I-75 from Knoxville to Scott County, where they stopped over for a tour of the Museum of Scott County, on the campus of Scott High School, and a lunch in the school's cafeteria.
The cyclists were part of the Honda Hoot, an annual cyclists' event in Knoxville.
This year's Hoot began on Wednesday, June 23, and concluded on Sunday. Around 20,000 cyclists were
expected to take part in the event, which is billed by Honda as the "motorcycle vacation of a lifetime."
After arriving in Knoxville, Hoot attendees branched out in smaller groups for day trips to take in the sights of the Appalachian region. County Mayor Dwight Murphy had invited the Hoot to Scott County for the general purpose of touring the Big South Fork. The cyclists were treated to lunch at Scott High by the Boys & Girls Club of Scott County and were given a tour of the Museum of Scott County by the museum's founder and curator, Gary Sexton, and the museum's staff of Scott High School students.
Friday's visit was the first time the Honda Hoog - in its 11th year - has ever come to Scott County.
