Wiley C. “Shorty” Ellis, 85, of Riceville, Tennessee, formerly of Scott County, passed away November 23, 2009, at his home.
Born in Scott County, November 21, 1924, he was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Pearl Ellis; brothers: Odie and Amon Ellis; sons: Danny, Robert, Jackie, Michael, and Mark Ellis; granddaughter, Tasha L. Ainsworth; and one brother-in-law, Carl Ferguson.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by six daughters and four sons: Novella Miller and husband, Gary, of Ypsilanti, Mich., Wiley Curtis Ellis, Jr. of Ga., JoAnn Bailey of LaFollette, Clara Sue Owens and Wilbert Ellis, both of Caryville, Pearl Kilgore and husband, James, of Riceville, Tenn., Gussie Hall and husband, Rob, of Winfield, Pauline Chinners and husband, Don, of Powell, Claude “Butch” Ellis of Greenville, Tenn., and Dean Ellis of Maryville; 23 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, one brother, Claude Ellis, Jr. of Cincinnati, Ohio; four sisters: Loma Ferguson of Louisville, Tenn., Clara Matthews and husband, John, and Sonya and Ethridge (Fish Hook) Byrd, all of Alcoa, and Mona Ross and husband, Charlie, of Helenwood; and many other relatives.
Funeral service was conducted November 24, in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Bro. Billy Leamon officiating. Graveside service was to have been conducted at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 25, at Black Creek Crossroads Cemetery with full military honors conducted by American Legion Post #136.
West-Murley Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
