HUNTSVILLE — Two persons have been charged in connection with a forgery case that allegedly involved forged checks being passed at businesses in the Fairview area, as well as local banks.

David Davis has been charged with six counts of forgery, while Homer W. Gray faces eight counts of forgery.

According to arrest warrants filed by Scott County Sheriff’s Department Detective Tommy Silcox, the men are each accused of passing checks written from the accounts of separate Oneida men. The incidents allegedly occurred in late September and early October.

Davis is accused of passing four checks totaling $500 at a Fairview grocery store, as well as checks in the amount of $200 at First National Bank of Oneida and Citizens First Bank’s Oneida branch.

Allegedly, a teller at Citizens First Bank was tipped off to the alleged forgery attempt when she noticed that the signature on the check presented by Davis was different than the account holder’s usual signature.

Gray allegedly passed six forged checks drawn on the accounts of separate victims at a Fairview convenience store, while allegedly passing two more checks at a grocery store in the community.

In a separate incident, a Huntsville woman was charged last week with aggravated burglary and theft over $1,000, stemming from an alleged break-in at a Huntsville residence.

Jessica Ray Bertram was arrested by Sheriff’s Department Detective Ricky Lee Jeffers on Tuesday, Oct. 20, on charges stemming from the alleged burglary the previous day.

Allegedly, Bertram took medications and cash totalling approximately $3,000 from a residence after getting into an argument with the homeowner the previous evening.
