Texie Jeffers Thompson, 87, of Oneida, passed away December 13, 2009, at St. Mary’s Medical Center of Scott County in Oneida.
Born April 20, 1922, she was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Abraham and Dellie Phillips Jeffers; step-mother, Stella Thompson Jeffers; husband, Walter Thompson; sons: Dorsey Thompson, and infant son; two granddaughters, Shawna Marie Corder and Cindy Lee Schwass; sisters: Inie, Chattamine, Vanie, Marie, and Charlsie; and brothers: Feezer, Hobert, Ezra, Hubert, and Elmer.
She was a member of Big Ridge Road Missionary Baptist Church, and in her younger life, she was an active member of the First Baptist Church Mission. She loved the Lord, lived for the Lord, and prayed until her passing. She read the newspapers weekly and many people came to her home for history on Scott County. She was an avid quilter and family historian. She had a great love for her children and her family. Her wish was that all her children were born again Christians, and they were.
She is survived by her daughters: Ivie Jean Senecal of Helenwood, and Kathy Kester and husband, Carol, of Cookeville; sons: Lillard Lee Thompson and wife, Pat, of Guilford, Ind., and Willie Thompson and wife, Ellie, and Denzil Thompson and wife, Rhonda, all of Helenwood; daughters-in-law, Marie Thompson and Patty Foster, both of Oneida; 10 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, brother Loman Jeffers and wife Norma of Fairfield, Ohio, several special nieces and nephews, and many other relatives.
The family was to have received friends from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 2 p.m., Wednesday, December 16, in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie Duncan and Dustin Thompson officiating. Music was to have been provided by Jim Hill, and the Gospel Trio. Interment was to have followed at Hazel Valley Cemetery.
West-Murley Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
