Stella Chitwood Brown, 95

Stella Mae Chitwood Brown, 95, of Winfield, passed away December 23, 2009, at St. Mary’s Medical Center of Scott County in Oneida.

Born in Winfield, October 19, 1914, she was preceded in death by her parents, Asbury and Charity Chitwood; her husband, Artist Brown; infant son, Donald; one grandson, Dale Brown; five brothers: John Q., Sanford, LaRue, Artist, and Francis Chitwood; and three sisters: Birdie Strunk, Mattie Cooper, and Emma Strunk.

She was a member of Winfield Missionary Baptist Church, and in recent years attended New Haven Baptist Church. She was an active member of Winfield Senior Citizens; and she loved to quilt, crochet, sew, and cook.

She is survived by three sons: James Brown and wife, Wanda, and David Brown and wife, Jo Ann, all of Winfield, and Kenneth Brown and wife, Joan, of Crossville; one daughter, Barbara Terry and husband, Sonny, of Oneida; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, special friends: Vonda, Beverly, Debbie, Tiny, and Betty; and many other relatives.

Funeral service was conducted December 27, in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Rev. Jody McGaha, Rev. Gene Bond, and Rev. Philip Kazee officiating. Interment followed at Chitwood Cemetery in Winfield.

West-Murley Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
