CROSSVILLE — Scott’s Lady Highlanders are headed to the region tournament after a third place finish in the District 4-AA Tournament.

Scott defeated Loudon 40-39 in the first round of the District 4-AA Tournament Friday in Crossville to earn a berth in the Region 2-AA Tournament, which begins tomorrow (Friday) at the site of the higher-seeded team.

The Lady Highlanders will play at District 3 runner-up Pigeon Forge, with tipoff slated for 7 p.m.

After the first round, all games will be played at Alcoa.

After falling to top-seeded CAK, 55-44, in the semifinals, the Lady Highlanders outlasted Stone Memorial, 80-73, in a triple-overtime consolation game Monday evening.

It was deja vu for the Lady Highlanders, who had earlier handed the Panthers their first district loss of the season with a triple overtime win at Highlander Gymnasium.

Whitney Phillips scored 22 points and Shay Anderson added 20 in the win. Lexi Jeffers scored 15 and Lynsey Chambers added 13. Also scoring were Syrena Kries with six points and Miata West with four.

Leslie Brown scored 23 points to lead Stone.

Phillips scored 18 points to lead Scott to the 40-39 win over Loudon. Scott trailed throughout much of the first half, but soared ahead in the second half.

Two keys of the second half were the third quarter—Scott held Loudon to just one field goal to take the lead in a defensive battle—and the shooting of Anderson, who knocked down two key 3-point shots in the fourth quarter en route to her nine points.

Also key was Chambers, who scored all of her nine points in the second half as Loudon managed to successfully defend Phillips.

Katie Settlemyre had 19 points to lead the Redskins. Savannah Berry added 16 points.

The following afternoon, Scott fell to CAK in the semifinals.

Ruthie Edmonds scored 15 points to lead three Warriors in double figures, while Anderson led three Lady Highlanders in double figures with 13.

Scott surged ahead in the fourth quarter, and trailed only 38-35 heading into the fourth quarter, where CAK was able to hit enough free throws to pull away.Phillips scored 11 points and Chambers added 10 for Scott. Kries and Jeffers each had four points and West added two points.
