HUNTSVILLE — A convicted sex offender has been arrested by the Scott County Sheriff’s Department on allegations that he violated Tennessee’s sexual offender law by having contact with several minors.
Jay Homer Chambers, 46, of Helenwood, was charged with violation of the sexual offender law and six counts of probation violation.
Chambers, who was convicted of rape in 1999, is accused of maintaining contact with four children between the ages of four and eight at their home “at least twice a week,” according to an affadavit filed by Det. Ricky Lee Jeffers.
The arrest warrant also alleges that Chambers maintained an active account on the social networking service MySpace, and that he had added persons under the age of 18 to his “friends” list.
Tennessee’s statute requires that convicted sex offenders provide the state with a list of usernames and other identification used to communicate online within 48 hours. The warrant alleges that Chambers did not comply.
