Scott outlasts Midway

KINGSTON — Tyler King scored 22 points and Jake Sexton added another 20, as Scott outlasted Midway 80-72 here Friday.

The two also combined for nine steals.

King knocked down five 3-point shots, including two in a crucial fourth quarter, for the Highlanders, who built a 7-point lead in the first quarter (22-15) but had trouble extending the advantage against a feisty Green Wave team.

Midway was led by Josh Manning’s 22 points.

Sexton connected on nine of 12 field goals for the Highlanders, who shot 29 of 59 as a team (22 of 36 inside the arch).

SCORING: Scott — King 22, Sexton 20, Brooks 10, West 9, I. Blakley 8, E. Blakley 2. Midway — Manning 22, Roberton 15, Wiley 11, Hull 10, Jarvis 6, Biar 5, Butler 2, Parkenson 1.

■ Scott 79, Oakdale 37: Five Highlanders finished in double-figures, as Scott used a balanced attack to defeat Oakdale 79-37 in last week’s season opener at Highlander Gymnasium.

Nathan Griffith led the way with 15, while Jake Sexton and Bradly Brooks each scored 11 and Eric Blakley and Brandon Crabtree added 10 each, as Scott raced to a 53-15 halftime lead in a game that was never in jeopardy.
Oakdale was led by DJ Courier’s 14 points.

The Highlanders shot 34 of 56 from the field (61%), including 76% from 2-point range.
