Scott falls to A-E at Winterfest

KNOXVILLE — Austin-East used a big second quarter run to propel itself to a 75-53 win over Scott Monday evening in the first day of play at the Pilot Winterfest Classic in West Knoxville.

Playing on a familiar floor at Knox Catholic, the Highlanders surged to a first quarter lead over the Roadrunners, and were up 16-15 as the second quarter began.

But A-E held Scott to just two field goals in the second period, outscoring the Highlanders 24-7 to blow open a close game. The Roadrunners led 39-23 at the half.

Travei Prayor, who led his team with 14 points, scored 10 in the third quarter to help Austin-East match the Highlanders point-for-point and maintain its double-digit lead heading into the final period.

Jake Sexton scored 14 of his game-high 20 points in the second half, but A-E would not allow Scott to make a game of it down the stretch.

Nathan Griffith and Mackenzie West each finished with 12 points for Scott. Sheldon Wade and Anthony Dailey were in double-figures for A-E, with 10 points each.

Griffith had five steals to go along with his 12 points. Sexton recorded four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Bradly Brooks had a pair of steals and an assist.

The Highlanders—in action for the first time since taking part in a tournament at nearby Grace Christian Academy in early December—were to have continued play in the Winterfest Classic on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Highlanders will resume regular season play on Monday, with a visit from Alcoa, a game that was originally scheduled for Dec. 18 before being postponed due to snow.
