HUNTSVILLE — Fairview’s Lady Rebels continued their recent domination of the Scott County Jr. High Basketball Tournament with a 28-22 win over Burchfield Saturday evening, while the school’s boys team completed the championship sweep with a 32-24 win over Huntsville in the tournament’s final game at Highlander Gymnasium.
It marked the second consecutive year that both Fairview teams won the tournament, while the Lady Rebels won their fifth consecutive tournament crown.
The Lady Rebels entered the tournament as the county’s top seed, but barely survived an upset bid from No. 4 Huntsville in the semifinals. A 22-21 win over the Lady Bears Thursday night earned Fairview a spot in Saturday’s championship game, while Huntsville upset No. 2 Robbins 33-27 in the consolation game to claim third place.
Fairview won the boys championship as a No. 3 seed, defeating No. 2 Burchfield 34-29 in the semifinals to advance to Saturday’s game. Huntsville, which entered the tournament as the top seed, was looking for its fourth tournament crown in five years.
Robbins claimed third place in the boys bracket with a 42-41 win over the Rams in the championship game.
Fairview’s Victoria Lloyd and Logan Harness were named tournament MVPs. Also named to the all-tournament teams were Summer Sexton, Ashley Goad and Montana Phillips (Fairview); Darby Lyons, Natasha Green and Destiny Carson (Burchfield); Destiny Leib and Nichole Casey (Huntsville); Jenise Litton (Winfield); and Kellsey Eskew (Robbins).
The boys all-tournament team included Jeremiah Adkins, Logan Lowe and Austin Lowe (Fairview); Kaleb Byrge, Jacob Phillips and Stephen Butts (Huntsville); Joe Cross and Jacob Story (Robbins); Cameron Marlar (Burchfield); and Jacob Freels (Winfield).
