Oneida cruises by 'Jackets

Oneida scored 13 of the game’s first 15 points and Coalfield never led, as the Indians defeated the Yellow Jackets 68-47 at OHS Gymnasium Thursday.

Dylan West scored 22 points to pace the Indians, who used a 16-0 run at the start of the second quarter to put the game away before halftime.

The win allowed Oneida to rebound from a loss at Sunbright earlier in the week, and kept the Indians’ hopes alive for at least a third place finish in District 4-A. The district’s runner-up spot and a first round bye in the post-season aren’t outside the realm of possibility if Oneida was to run the table.

In a game moved from Friday to Thursday due to weather forecasts, Oneida scored the first seven points and led by double-figures before the OHS pep band had even gotten into position.

Coalfield would battle back to within five (19-14) late in the first quarter, but Oneida scored 18 straight to put the game away, building a 43-24 lead by the half.

The lead was 60-32 by the end of the third quarter, with younger players from each team seeing significant playing time in the second half.

In addition to West’s 22 points, Noah Duncan scored 13 for Oneida, while Cody Carson added 12 and Jake Wright 11 points. Also scoring were Austin Yaden and Clay Jeffers with two points each, and Tanner Boshears with one point.

With the closure of most operations at Hartco, are you hopeful that new industry will move into Scott County to fill the void?:
