HUNTSVILLE - An Oneida man has been charged in connection with a September traffic accident that killed his passenger.

In an indictment unsealed Monday, Andrew J. Ellis, 19, was charged with two counts of vehicular homicide.

Ellis was the driver of a vehicle involved in a Sept. 5 accident on Coopertown Road in West Oneida. According to an accident report filed by Trooper Mark Chitwood of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the accident occurred when a Mitsubishi Mirage driven by Ellis left the roadway and crashed through two board fences before striking a farm house some 579 ft. from the point it left the highway.

Ernest Green, 19, of Helenwood, was a passenger in the vehicle. Both Green and Ellis were airlifted to UT Medical Center in Knoxville, where Green was pronounced dead. Ellis was treated for serious injuries and later released.
In seeking the indictment, which was returned by a Scott County grand jury on Oct. 6, prosecutors alleged that Ellis was intoxicated at the time of the accident.

Ellis was arraigned in Scott County Criminal Court Monday morning.
