Ikey Duncan, 75

William Isaac (Ikey) Duncan, 75, of the Capital Hill community, passed away October 20, 2009, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Knoxville.

Born September 3, 1934, he was preceded in death by his parents, John Phillips and Bernetta Duncan; his wife, Sandy Duncan; one daughter, Marla Strunk; one sister, Area Duncan; and two infant brothers.

He was a loving and wonderful father and grandfather and was an inspiration to all who knew him. He enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Scott County Recycling Center; and was a faithful member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. He retired as a teacher for the Scott County School System after 38 years and was a member of the Scott County Retired Teachers Association. He was an active member of the Mountain People’s Health Council, past member of the Scott County Election Commission; and served his country in the United States Air Force.

He is survived by his children: Teresa Oaks and husband, Tommy, of Oneida, and Michelle Owens and husband, Jeff, of the Capital Hill community; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many other relatives.

Funeral service was conducted October 23, at Antioch Baptist Church with Bro. Carlie Duncan and Bro. Jesse Tussing officiating. Music was provided by Kathy Cross Smiddling and Dale Parton. A special tribute was provided by granddaughter, Ashton Owens. Interment followed at Antioch Cemetery with full military honors conducted by American Legion Post #136.

Four Oaks Funeral Home of Huntsville had charge of arrangements.
