Highlanders score district win over Kingston

HUNTSVILLE — Tyler King led four Highlanders in double figures, with 16 points, as Scott defeated Kingston 71-48 at Highlander Gymnasium Tuesday (Jan. 26).

Isaac Blakley scored 10 of his 14 points in the first quarter to power the Highlanders to a 16-14 lead after the opening period.

The Highlanders scored 22 points in the second period to open a 38-30 lead at the intermission, then limited the Yellow Jackets to just 18 second half points to pull away for the 23-point win.

Also in double figures for Scott were Bradley Brooks (14) and Jacob Sexton (13).

Aaron Fielden was the only Kingston player finishing in double figures, with 10.

Sexton had six rebounds to go along with his 13, while Mackenzie West added five boards and Blakley four.

The Highlanders will continue play at Loudon tomorrow (Friday).

SCORING: Scott — King 16, Brooks 14, I. Blakley 14, Sexton 13, Griffith 6, West 4, D. Goad 2, Crabtree 2. Kingston — Fielden 10, Phillips 8, Mossing 8, Huddlestone 8, Clower 6, King 4, Foster 2, Eason 2.

Stone 72, Scott 45: Zack Sherrill scored 18 points and Brandon Cole added 12 as Stone Memorial defeated Scott 72-45 at Highlander Gymnasium Friday evening.

The Panthers, a top 10 Class AA team in some rankins, led by nine points at the intermission, but outscored Scott 21-10 in the third quarter to put the game away.

Jacob Sexton led Scott with 16 points and six rebounds.

Also scoring for Scott were Tyler King with six points, Eric Blakley with five, Isaac Blakley with five, Nathan Griffith with four, Brandon Crabtree, Dylan Jeffers, Bradly Brooks and Mackenzie West with two points each, and Alex Goad with one point.
