When the final horn sounded at Tellico Plains Saturday evening, it signaled an end to the winter sports season at local high schools.
Almost immediately, attention focused on spring sports. First pitches, kickoffs and opening guns will take place over the next 11 days, as Oneida and Scott High teams spring into action (pardon the pun).
A preview of the spring sports season will be offered tomorrow (Friday), when Scott and Oneida’s baseball teams meet for a preseason scrimmage.
A preseason tournament will follow at Rockwood on March 10 through March 13, with both teams participating.
Scott High’s soccer team, meanwhile, will begin its season by participating in a jamboree Saturday, beginning at 9:40 a.m. Opponents will be Powell, Gibbs, Central and Sweetwater, with play concluding Saturday afternoon.
Monday, March 15, will be a busy day, as most local teams play their first regular season games.
Oneida’s softball and baseball teams will both be at Rockwood that evening, with first pitches scheduled for 6 p.m. Scott High’s softball team will be at Clarkrange, beginning at 5 p.m.
Scott High’s baseball team will begin its season with a visit from CAK the following afternoon, March 16. A double-header is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Scott High School athletic fields complex.
Both local soccer teams will also begin their regular seasons March 16, with Oneida hosting Stone Memorial at 6 p.m. and Scott hosting CAK at 6:30 p.m.
Scott High’s track and field schedule had not been finalized as of Monday afternoon.
