Florence Marcella Price Carson, 85, of Tullahoma, passed away December 19, 2009, at Lynchburg Nursing Center following a short illness.
Born in Hamilton, Ohio, September 5, 1924, she was preceded in death by her parents, Dora Henard and Jacob Price; two siblings, and her husband, James Bailey Carson, III.
She graduated from Rogersville High School, and attended Georgetown College, where she was a member of Sigma Kappa Social Sorority and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was a flight attendant and reservation agent with American Airlines; was a homemaker, and served as secretary in the library at Motlow College. She and her daughter opened The Children’s Collection, and she was a member of First United Methodist Church, and the Circle. She belonged to the Eastern Star and sponsored the Rainbow Girls and Girl Scouts in special activities. She was also a member of The Tullahoma Woman’s Club, the Hermitage Foundation, and was a Grand Dame with the Mount Vernon Society in Washington, D.C. She enjoyed politics and was an avid supporter of the conservative movement and the Republican Party. She enjoyed reading, music, cooking and entertaining her large family.
She is survived by two daughters: Emily Gretchen Thoma of Tullahoma, and Sarah Gwendolyn Mauer of Annapolis, MD; son-in-law, Eldon Bracton Thoma, III; five grandchildren, one great-grandson, and many other relatives.
Graveside service and entombment was conducted December 21, at Carson Family Cemetery in Oneida, with Rev. Jones officiating. A celebration of life service was conducted December 27, at First United Methodist Church, Tullahoma, with Rev. Jim Beaty officiating.
Jones & Son Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
