GLENMARY — A driver was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash here Monday afternoon.

The accident occurred at 3 p.m. Monday near the Scott-Morgan county line on Nydeck Trail, approximately two miles west of its intersection with U.S. Hwy. 27.

The driver and sole occupant of the Chevy Colbalt LS was identified as Casey Bowling. The vehicle apparently left the roadway and struck a tree, landing on its side at the base of a small embankment.

Deputies reported that the roadway near where the accident occurred was very slick, apparently due to rainy conditions.

Scott County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Gary A. Sexton was first on the scene and reported that Bowling was unresponsive. The efforts of South Scott Volunteer Fire Department and Scott County Rescue Squad were required to extricate her from the vehicle.

Scott County EMS and Morgan County Sheriff's Department also responded to the scene of the accident. Paramedics initially planned to airlift Bowling from a helipad on S.R. 52 in Elgin, but Lifestar reportedly was unable to fly due to inclement weather conditions. EMS transported her to St. Mary's of Scott County and later to UT Medical Center in Knoxville.

The accident was being investigated by the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

With the closure of most operations at Hartco, are you hopeful that new industry will move into Scott County to fill the void?:
