Delmus Strunk, 93, of Oneida, passed away October 27, 2009, at St. Mary’s Medical Center of Scott County in Oneida.
Born in the Fairview community, September 10, 1916, he was preceded in death by his parents, Jehu and Rachel Boshears Strunk; his wife, Flonnie Shoemaker Strunk; one daughter, Frankie June Blakley; two brothers, Willie and Clois Strunk; and four sisters: Artie Robinson, Elsie Webber, Bertie Botts, and Florence Byrd.
He was a coal miner for most of his life, but also worked at Western Kentucky University. He was a loving caregiver for his wife during her illness and was a member of First Baptist Church of Huntsville for many years.
He is survived by his children: Lonnie Strunk and wife, Mary Jo, Brenda Steely and husband, Paul, and Kenneth Strunk; son-in-law, Arvis Blakley; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, one sister, Susie Lawson; several nieces and nephews, and many other relatives.
Funeral service was conducted October 29, at Huntsville Memorial Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kevin Terry and grandsons, John Blakley, and Hunter Bates officiating. Music was provided by Keifer Goad, Virginia Goad, and Charlotte Phillips. Entombment was conducted October 30, at Carson Memorial Mausoleum.
