Arthona Sexton Coffey, 87

Arthona Louise Sexton Coffey, 87, of Huntsville, passed away December 29, 2009, with her family singing to her.

Born in the Paint Rock community, May 25, 1922, she was preceded in death by her parents, Everett (Ebb) and Lona Laxton Coffey; her husband, Claude Coffey; one son, James Elbert Coffey; one grandchild, Claudine Thomas; and one brother, John Roy Sexton.

She and her husband were owners/operators of a construction and building supply Company in Huntsville; and she was named one of Scott County’s Mothers of the Year. She was a member of White Rock Baptist Church, where she was in inspiration to all who knew her. Known as the Coffey Family Singers, she, with her husband and children, toured several states and sang in numerous churches, at conventions, and sang on television and radio.

She is survived by five children: Lou Nova Sexton and wife, Louise, Claudette Smith and husband, Robert E., Tony Cleona Coffey, Claudia Tillman and husband, Andrew R., and Carletta Thomas and husband, Jack; 17 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, two sisters: Flona Lorena Phillips, and Eunice Weaver Cotton; and many other relatives.

A celebration of life was conducted January 1, 2010, at White Rock Baptist Church with Bro. Jim West and Bro. Landon Sexton officiating. Music was provided by The Brimstone Boys, Debby Terry & Family, The Seed Sewing Ministry, Dale Daugherty, White Rock Adult & Youth Choir, Lou Nova Sexton, Claudia Tillman, and Andi Marie Tillman. Interment followed at Sexton Cemetery in the Paint Rock community.

Four Oaks Funeral Home of Huntsville had charge of arrangements.
