All-District 4-A spring teams announced

Oneida’s Tyler Jeffers was named slugger of the year and six other Indians and Lady Indians were named to the All-District 4-A softball and baseball teams.

Jeffers, a senior, joined Oakdale’s Ryan Powers (defensive player of the year), Oliver Springs’ Cary Gann (pitcher of the year) and Oliver Springs’ Cruise Smith and Coalfield’s Brandon Evans (co-players of the year) in receiving postseason superlatives from District 4-A’s coaches.

Oliver Springs’ Tony Kegley was named the district’s coach of the year.

Joining Jeffers on the all-district team from Oneida were pitcher Garrett Shupner and first baseman Dalton Freels.

Other District 4-A honorees included:

• Rodney Efferson, Cody Taylor, Matt Tinker, Dale Crass and Logan Crisp from Oliver Springs;

• Zach Davidson, Cody Sexton, Corey Keathley and Brett Robinson from Wartburg;

• Austin Hicks, Dalton Roberts and Andy Brooks from Coalfield;

• Corey Johnson and Ryan Young from Oakdale;

• Mike Smith from Jellico; and,

• Justin Huseman from Sunbright.

In softball, Kaley Neal and Alex Bond were named to the all-district first team, while Breanna Bell and Shalyn Lay were named all-district second team.

Coalfield freshman pitcher Lindsey Fadnek was named the district’s MVP.

Other players receiving honors included:

• Coalfield’s Andrea Foster, Lindsey Hannah Melhorn, Kaylee Watson, Chelsey Landrum, Tallessee Jones, Erika Foster and Megan Steelman;

• Oliver Springs’ Cheltzie Sheldon, Myra Lloyd, Kayla Crisp, Kayla Aloisi, Brittany Gallaher and Shelby Miller;

• Oakdale’s Kristin Tilson, Lindsey Kilby, Katie Summers, Nicole Thompson, Baley Pease and Courtney Helton, Wartburg’s Chelsea Potter, Jessica Barnett, Beth Nicholes, Bryson Scruggs, Ashton Taylor and Mary Simms;

• Jellico’s Brittany Hughes, Noel Miller, Zoe Wynkott and Ashley Ouinette; and,

• Sunbright’s Sunny Lavender, Kayla Bowman, Amber Kennedy and Ashley Honeycutt.
