GREENCASTLE, Ind. — Maryville College came from behind in the second half here Friday evening, defeating Otterbein of the Ohio Athletic Conference, 68-61, to advance to the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament.

The Lady Scots (24-4) trailed 29-27 at the half. But Otterbein (21-7) could not hold on in the second half, as freshman Mackenzie Puckett came off the bench to score 17 points for Maryville in a game that saw three other Lady Scots score in double figures — including 17 points by Lauren Burnett and 16 points by Kiera Payne.

Burnett had a huge stretch for Maryville in the second half, hitting three consecutive 3-point shots to turn a 46-46 tie into a 55-46 lead for Maryville, and Otterbein was unable to recover. Burnett finished the game five of eight from 3-point range.

Oneida High School graduate Alex Bond scored two points, and had four rebounds and a team-high four assists. Fellow OHS grad Donja Robbins played but did not score, grabbing one rebound for the Lady Scots.

Maryville College will face host and top-seeded Depauw University Saturday. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

Depauw, the nation’s top-ranked Division III team, is 29-0 after recording a 73-43 win over LaRoche (29-3) in Friday’s first round game.

Scott High School graduate Shay Anderson is also a member of the Maryville College squad.
